General information

About the venue site

If you have explored the Dartington website at all you will quickly realise that this is a rural site.  Everything is reasonably self-contained and within an easy walk, although the site is hilly so if you have difficulty negotiating steep hills please allow for additional time to move around.

Parking onsite

In order for you to allow time to arrive on time at your space, this is a guide to the walking distance between the various spaces. Studio 1, Studio 3, Studio 5 and the Garden Room are all in the same building and are less than two minutes apart from one another.  The Great Hall is in the main courtyard area and is a 5-minute walk across lawned areas or 7-8 minutes by paved road. Pretty much everything else is also within a maximum of 10 minutes walking time. If you have difficulty walking up steep hills, allow a little additional time.

Information for art exhibitors

Dates of the exhibition

The exhibition opens on June 19 and runs until September 2 (in most cases).

Installation days, etc

The primary gallery installation days are Thursday June 13 from 11am and Friday June 14 from 9am.

In special cases there will be an additional installation day on Wednesday June 18 but please ask us about this if you want to install on that day; some of you doing outdoor installations can also work any time after June 13 to work onsite.

De-install will in most cases take place on Tuesday September 3, from 9am. If it’s not possible for your work to stay up this long please let us know. We may have already discussed this with you.

Delivering artwork

Please deliver your work, ready to hang/display the morning of June 13. We expect to begin the installation process around 11am.

If you’re unable to deliver your work in person please arrange to have it sent to us to arrive no later than Wednesday June 12 to:
art.earth, Dartington Space Gallery, Dartington Space, Dartington Hall, Totnes TQ9 6EL, United Kingdom

How we work with you

We like to support you as much as possible. We know the walls and the hanging space well, so we will work with you to hang/show your work. We have a full set of tools onsite but if you’re able to bring your own, please do (but please make sure everything is well-labelled).

We will curate work into the space. This will be a complex, multi-site hang so please ensure you meet all deadlines.

If you wish to offer your work for sale, we take a 40% commission on sales;  please price your work accordingly.

Labels, text, etc.

Please send us the following information no later than Sunday June 9.  NOTE if you have previously returned your ‘exhibitor’ form then you’ve already done this.

  • biographical statement written in the third person (max. 80 words for each artist)
  • an artist’s statement written in the first person (max. 150 words)
  • up to 3 images of your work for the exhibition or similar/indicative work for use in our marketing/publicity. These should be jpegs of at least 1200px wide, at 300dpi. In group exhibitions the most reproducible image(s) will likely be chosen for the main ‘poster’
  • a picture of you, or you at work (optional)
  • any other promotional or informational text you’d like us to have.
  • a list of your works for the exhibition with title, materials, size, year of creation and price (please remember to cost in the 40% commission). Please include a thumbnail image of each piece noting the title along with the accompanying text for labels –– it makes much easier match the labels to the work.
  • an updated artist’s statement relevant to the final pieces selected

Information for film-makers / presenters

Dates of the screening

June 20 and 21

Screening space

The films selected for Evolving the Forest will screen in a continuous loop starting at 09.00 on Thursday June 20 and finishing around 15.30 on Friday June 21.

They will be shown in Studio 3 at Dartington Space which is a fully black space with excellent acoustics. Films will be shown on a 65″ screen (most likely) as this gives a higher quality than the projectors we have available.

Delivering your films

Please make sure we have your film(s) no later than Sunday June 2.

You can either send the file to gallery@artdotearth.org using a file transfer service such as wetransfer.com or using Dropbox (to dropbox@artdotearth.org).

Alternatively you can post a USB stick (will not be returned) or a Hard Drive (will be returned) to us at:
art.earth
4 Coleridge House
Chillington
Kingsbridge
TQ7 2JG
UK

DO NOT send us your file on CD or DVD or DVD-Rom.

Format

Send us your film in the highest quality possible. We can show films up to 4K. The minimum should be HD (1920X1080).

Ideally use Apple ProRes as your format, but pretty much any uncompressed format will suffice. Please try to avoid sending in a compressed format such as .mp4 or .avi as the quality will not be sufficient for screening. We retain the right to choose not to include films that are of insufficient technical quality.
